Many parents were not satisfied with the OBE and NCS education offered by the state and state-subsidized schools.
“I want my child to count and do mathematical applications in her head,” says one concerned parent.Another laments, “ Children these days do not know how to spell and coupled with Mix-it and e-mails and smses my child will never spell correctly. Spelling rules are omitted in schools, now there are no spelling tests or rules taught at school.”Parents are also concerned about the quality of education a school provides. “ Often we have to send our children for tuition after school hours and pay for this in addition to school fees. Large classes also means that children do not get individual attention,” says another parent.
