RNW wins prestigious Mayoral Award

At its Annual Mayoral Awards held on 29 May 2013, the Sedibeng District Municipality presented a Mayoral Award to the Roshnee Neighbourhood Watch for its contribution to community safety. The District Municipality made 19 Awards in several categories. Nominations were received from the communities in a public process in which residents were asked to nominate worthy recipients in various categories. The Award was made in recognition of the role of the community in organising itself to combat the threat of crime. The non-profit making initiative captured the attention of several high-profile guests at the Gala event at the Vereeniging City Hall. A video clip with a profile of the RNW showed the patrol cars, the CCTV monitoring room and explained the community based nature of the RNW. The preventative and educational aspects of the role of the RNW as well as its working relationship with the SAPS further emphasised the outstanding achievement of the RNW. Hoosain Saloojee and Mr SH Kassim represented the RNW at the event and received the Award on behalf of the community.
